World of Color inside Disney California Adventure is a fantastic colorful show with jets of water shooting into the air, lasers and pyrotechnics. This MUST SEE show happens nightly and sometimes twice a night. Check the Disney app for showtimes or the entertainment guide when you’re in the park. You can also find the times 45 days before your visit on the Disneyland website calendar.
Important details about the show
Unlike other shows at the parks such as fireworks or the parades this show REQUIRES a FastPass for the best viewing. You will need to grab a FastPass (FP) by The Little Mermaid ride, across from the restrooms (see photo below). Grab it at the beginning of your day for the best viewing area.
This FP is separate from the regular FP system. As soon as you grab it you can keep getting other FP’s no need to wait any time. Everyone in your party needs a FP age 3 and older. FP’s DO run out depending on how busy the park is by late morning. You CAN now get a FP through the app using MaxPass! As soon as you enter the park (either park) go on the app and get your FastPass for World of Color first thing. If you’re not sure what a FastPass is or how MaxPass works head over here!
Once you have your FastPass it will indicate which assigned viewing area you must return to later that night. The machine first distributes the BLUE section and then the YELLOW.
See the map below where each viewing section is for the show. It varies depending on your color and if you are with a special designated area like a dining package or dessert party.
The viewing areas are standing room only. They allow you to sit until about 10 minutes before the show and then you stand for the whole show. I suggest that you arrive an hour before the show starts because even though you have a FP in a designated area it fills up quickly. Keep in mind that with standing room only it makes it very difficult for kids to view this show. That’s why I suggest arriving an hour before the show starts so you hopefully can get in the BLUE section over on the bridge leading to Pixar Pier for the best viewing option. Or the front row of the yellow section but some of that is the splash zone. The show lasts 22 minutes.
Dining package options
If you want a better viewing area you can also book a dining package at either Carthay Circle, Wine Country Trattoria or Storytellers Cafe, call (714) 781-DINE to make reservations or look on the Disneyland website.
The other more expensive option is the dessert party with a chair for $84 per person (subject to change). Check the Disneyland website for more information.
If you don’t get a FastPass you can still watch the show from across the bay or just in front of the Little Mermaid ride. But the show is far away and not as spectacular. Definitely a better experience with a FastPass.
There are some seasonal versions of World of Color. For instance during Christmas time it changes to Seasons of Light. No matter the time of year you should see this spectacular show at least once on your visit.
